How people became slaves
Slavery used to be hard for the African people and this picture shows how they use to be taken from their home. This picture shows all the slaves in the ship and how they use to fit as many they can so they will make more money by selling them. It takes more then month to get to where they going to. Some of them might die from the heating, not much space for them to be moving around and died of hunger too.
This map shows where the slaves went to. During the 1650-1860 the African slaves used to be taken from their home to different parts of the world. They mostly were taken to South America as you can see this surprises a lot of people. The reason they were taken was to get together the products, like tobacco, coffee, cotton, etc. as shown above.
What did it meant to be a slave
I read this book and it talked about slavery and how hard it was for them to be slave. They weren't allowed to have education because their masters didn't want them to know more than them. NightJohn was an educated slave who taught Sarny (a little girl slave he meets) letters and putting together some words together and NightJohn got harshly punished for that because as I said they weren't allowed to be educated.

The slaves weren't allow to go to schools or live them normal life like everybody else. They weren't allowed to be educated. The men jobs is to work at the field out the house and do the hard work sometimes the women work out at the field too, but the most women slaves were cooking, cleaning and take care of the house.
What was it like to escape slavery
Escaping slaves had find their way North. The songs they sang helped them to find the way for example in the song Follow the Drinking Gourd it tells people to follow the north star. The name for this mass escape is the Underground Railroad. If they were not lucky and got caught they would get punished and sent back to slavery.
